I want to get my hair tips dyed purple but I've never dyed my hair ever before?

I like my natural hair color and am afraid that dying my hair will mean that I can't get my natural color back until all my hair grows back. Is this true? Is there hair dye that fades after a while or something? I'm interested in tips.I want to get my hair tips dyed purple but I've never dyed my hair ever before?
It is really really hard to get your natural hair color back...

if you are looking to experiment there are hair dyes out there that are not perminate... but they will wash out with 30 washes or so.... but they also fade quickly

you might be able to get close to your natural hair color but I wouldn't count on it...I want to get my hair tips dyed purple but I've never dyed my hair ever before?
Absolutely NOT true! All hair color fades, especially when you have true colors-such a blue, pink purple or red. I did the whole purple thing when I was in highschool and I LOVED it. I bleached my hair first and went to Sallys and got the purple color. You can keep applying it like once a week to keep it vibrant and get a color shampoo and conditioner so it doesnt fade as fast. My favorite is the Pureology it is pricey but worth every cent. They actually replaced the sulfate-which strips the color-with an all natural ingredient-coconut oil. They GUARANTEE to make your color last longer. If you can afford it, I would go to a professional for the bleach job (so you dont fry your hair off) and then you can do the purple yourself. Good luck!
All hair colourants fade over time, if I was you I'd get Directions plum for your tips, on my hair (whole head) it lasts about 3 weeks without fading then slowly fades (but usually i've dyed over some colour or other by then) If you're only interested in purple I've found you don't have to bleach if you use this, it's the same with ocean blue by directions,

And if you only have a couple of inches of your tips dyed, you can always chop them off anyhow, if you change your mind on colour and want a lighter one, like pink, chances are you'll have to bleach!

But purple will be fine, you can always cut it off, and it'll fade anyhow!
If you're only getting the tips of your hair dyed purple, then if the color never fades on that part of your hair, you can just cut it off. Otherwise, if you're dying all of your hair purple, you'd either have to wait for it to all grow out, or dye it back to your natural color.

One thing I should mention: I dyed my hair several times in high school, all darker colors than my natural color, and once my natural hair started growing back out, it was a tiny bit darker than I remembered it. So I don't know if the dye had anything to do with it or if my hair just naturally got darker over that period of time, but it might be something to consider. As long as you don't dye your hair ALL THE TIME, then you should be fine. But like I said, if you're just dying the tips of your hair then it shouldn't affect the way your hair grows out of your head from then on because it won't be touching your scalp.

To answer your question about whether or not you have to bleach your hair before dying: it depends on how vibrant you want the color to be. If you want it really bright, then it would be best to bleach that part of your hair before dying it. If you don't want it to be so bright then don't bleach your hair. The purple will color your hair at the same shade that your natural hair is... does that make sense? The darker your natural color is, the darker the purple... the lighter your natural color is, the brighter the purple will be. So bleaching is all up to you. However, if you do it, I suggest you get it done professionally; bleaching hair on your own sometimes results in a strange orange color. Not fun!

Hope that helps. :)
If you're only getting the tips died then the rest of your hair will stay your natural colour, you shouldn't have a problem. But if you want to dye all of your hair then you should use semi-permanent dye and that will just wash out after a few washes.
just get a wash out and if you dye your hair wonce it starts growing back it will look weird with half purple hair and your natural colour so you will have to keep on dying it or you will get regrowth
get a semi-permanent hair dye.

it should all come out within a few weeks.
